• Advanced Technology Solutions For Productivity Enhancement

Our patented technologies are developed by combining engineering process design and differential chemistry. We have over 40 years of research and development and field implementation.

Who We Are

Albert Chan

Dr. Chan founded SpacerTek, Inc. in 2000 in Dallas, Texas, and is currently the President.  SpacerTek is a company specializing in the application of production enhancement technologies for drilling, completion, and workover operations and also in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) utilizing surfactant and polymer technology.

Dr. Chan began his professional career in 1976 as a Senior Research Engineer with AMOCO Production Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He was involved in the research and development of EOR surfactants, micellar-polymer EOR process, and field pilot tests.

In 1985, Dr. Chan joined ARCO Exploration and Production Technology in Dallas, Texas as a Research Associate.  He continued to work on the research and commercial development of synthetic surfactants for EOR.  In 1990, Dr. Chan became involved in the implementation of surfactant and polymer technology in drilling, completion, and production operations.

Dr. Chan has pioneered many innovative technologies to greatly enhance well productivity.  His expertise led to innovative advancement in spacer design and displacement process for wellbore cleanout and cementing jobs, as well as in the engineering and optimization of drill-in fluids for open-hole horizontal and multi-lateral well completions.  He has also developed many patented microemulsion-based treatment technologies for the mitigation of formation damage in production wells to achieve productivity enhancement.

Dr. Chan retired from BP in December 2000, following the merger of ARCO with BP, but continued to serve BP and Conoco-Phillips as a consultant under his own SpacerTek agency.  SpacerTek provides technology services for wellbore cleanout, spacer designs for cementing and P&A operations, produced water management for disposal, and microemulsion-based stimulation treatments worldwide. Former and current clients include BP, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, BPMIGAS (Indonesian Government Executive Agency for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities), Petrobras, Pertamina E&P, Pemex, PDVSA, and Saudi Aramco.

Dr. Chan has received numerous technical achievement awards, including ARCO Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement in 1996 and 1998.  He holds 19 U.S. Patents resulting from his work in technology research and development as well as field operation experiences.  In addition, Dr. Chan has published numerous articles and has lectured extensively, both domestically and internationally. From 1981-2000, he served as an Advisory Panel member for various University/Industry Joint Research Programs.
